Through funds raised for Ridgefield Responds: Hope for Jacmel Haiti, we have ordered our first batch of food to respond to a direct request from Bonite Affriany, our contact in Jacmel. We ordered 2 cases of 6 gallon oil, 1-100 lb. bag of pinto beans, 1-100 lb bag of black beans and 4-100 lbs of rice. The basics. The food will be received today through Unitransfer and will allow Bonite to feed the more than 225 children and to give adults cups of rice and beans when they come by for food. Four bags of rice will feed everyone for about 4 days because Bonite is stretching it. If you cup your hand, this is the amount of rice and beans they will be receiving with no meat and no drink. They still need fish, milk and juice for these meals. The food received today will feed them through Saturday. A rough calculation is that we can feed one person for 4 days with $2.22, so a donation of $20 could feed 9 people for 4 days.
